We are building a tiny house!

That's right! Students of Michigan State University's School of Planning, Design and Construction are coming together to build a tiny house. The build is a collaborative effort between Interior Design, Construction Management, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering and Landscape architecture students.

1: Planning and Design

Student leaders have attended a tiny house building workshop in order to prepare for the build. There they learned all about the real-world applications of tiny houses, design and engineering considerations, and much more. We spent the rest of the fall semester planning the build and designing innovative features to the home.

2: Construction

The students are working on weekends to build the tiny house. We are working Friday through Sunday, 9am to 7pm. Don't worry -  We're working in 4 hour shifts. According to our calculations, the building processes will last from March 4th, 2016 to April 22nd, 2016. The build will give students the opportunity to gain hands-on skills, as well teach them about sustainable living options.

3: Community Education

Once finished, the house will be used as an educational tool to teach our local community about alternative sustainable lifestyles. We plan on meeting with home owner associations, and giving tours and presentations.

4: Selling the House

We will part ways with the tiny house, auctioning it at the MSU Surplus Center.
To stay notified of upcoming dates of the home will be sold, please contact us on the "contact" tab so we can notify you.
